Getting to Yes with Your CEO and Executive Team
When presenting to your CEO and executive team, you must show how your proposals advance the company’s mission and business objectives. And you must do so succinctly, credibly, and confidently.

Featuring: Dana Bristol Smith
By interviewing HR leaders and CEOs at more than 30 San Diego organizations, Dana found out what CEOs want to hear, and what they don’t when proposals are presented to them. Dana has built an Executive Summary Presentation Template to help you save time and stress, and get better results when delivering your proposals.

Come to this interactive presentation with ideas to share about your upcoming proposals and HR initiatives. You’ll get some hands-on practice and feedback pitching your ideas to your colleagues. You’ll leave this presentation:

  • Feeling more confident in your abilities to present your ideas and proposals
  • Knowing how deliver your proposals as a business case
  • With a usable tool to help you develop an executive presentation

BEDC Management Training Academy: Don't Miss out on the Early-Bird Discount!
Several BEDC member companies have collaborated to select a training and development organization to provide a curriculum targeted for managers & supervisors. The purpose was to design a quality, engaging program to teach essential management skills common to all of our organizations, to allow any of the San Diego life science companies to send their managers, and as a consortium, leverage a cost-effective price.

The Organization Effectiveness Consultants (OEC) has designed the BEDC Management Training Academy just for us! The course is comprised of 7 classes occurring 1x/week from 8:00-11:30. Our first offering is now full, however we are ready to accept registration for the second series. The second series will start on Tuesday, September 9th through October 28th (no class on September 30th) and will take place at Ardea Biosciences, centrally located in Sorrento Valley (Get Map). The cost is $1500 per participant, and there is a 10% discount for early registration on or before August 11th. After August 11th, a group discount will apply for groups of 5 or more from one company. First come, first serve. And we hope to offer another session in the Winter/Spring ‘09.

Please go to www.OECStrategicSolutions.com for more information on the course content, OEC and registration details. You may also contact Pam Gleason, OEC at (858) 735-9226 or email pgleason[at]OECStrategicSolutions.com. Please let me know if you have any questions. BEDC Compensation and Benefits Survey
We are soliciting your organization to participate in our 2008 BEDC Compensation and Benefits Survey (benefits conducted bi-annually). Members: for planning purposes, please email and let us know if your organization will be able to participate in this survey.

The BEDC is a not-for-profit organization serving the San Diego biopharmaceutical community. In particular, the BEDC provides resources, training, conferences and networking opportunities regarding the human resources of biopharmaceutical companies.

The San Diego BEDC Compensation and Benefits Survey consists of market data for approximately 180 benchmark positions and a general compensation practices portion which includes past and future salary budgets. Every other year, including this year in 2008, there is a benefits practice portion. Last year, there were ~100 participating organizations, with more than half having less than 100 employees and also more than half being privately funded. In addition, we have made improvements to the survey, including redesigning the Benefits section.

Key Survey Dates

  • Survey data and fees ($400) are due July 11
  • Release data results August 29
  • Training for Survey usage and market trends Annual BEDC conference

Contact: Laney Beres, who is with the compensation consulting firm Compensia (former founders of iQuantic), is the primary contact for the survey. Laney has more than 15 years of consulting experience, providing compensation consulting and custom survey services for many clients in the Life Sciences industry.
